The Z28 had a buckboard ride and sports activities-automobile handling. The 302 was a peaky devil, arduous to launch and lethargic underneath 4000 rpm. Pushed as it was meant to be, efficiency was shattering. Road & Track settled on 7500 rpm (!) as the optimum shift level and reported 63 mph in first gear, eighty five in second, and 113 in third.
